Top 10 Jewellery Gift Ideas for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching (18 days and counting people!) and we all know what that means. Yep, thousands of hopeful people working themselves into a frenzy of anticipation and their respective other halves steadily tearing their hair out trying to answer that centuries-old question.
What to buy!?!?!
Fear not beloved readers, WSS has the ultimate guide to the perfect Valentine’s present for your precious partner.
Welcome to the Top 10 Jewellery Gift Ideas for Valentine’s Day.
No. 10 – What to buy when you’ve only been together a few weeks?
Always a tricky one. You’ve only been dating a few weeks and haven’t actually decided that you’re ‘proper boyfriend and girlfriend’ yet. You’re both wrapped up in the heady first flush of romance, so it’s only appropriate to get a gift. But nothing that’s too extravagant or slushy, otherwise you might come across as being a bit desperate and perhaps a tiny bit scary.
I’d recommend something like this Rosy Red Bouquet Necklace.
Rose-shaped jewellery is perfect in this situation as hearts or a ring could seem a bit full-on for where your relationship is. This necklace is gorgeous and there’s a lot to it. She’s bound to be impressed. £18.50 from Spiral Fountain Jewellery.
No. 9 – You’re serious but haven’t said the ‘L’ word yet.
Again, not an easy one this. You’re both serious about each other, but have yet to take the big step of saying those three little words. So you need something romantic, but not something that’s going to heap pressure on either of you.
How about this By Mine Valentine Necklace?
With its sentimental message, this makes a statement that a simple, plain heart wouldn’t. Plus, you have that lovely, romantic moment after she opens it, of putting it around her neck for her. Very movie-moment. We girls like that. £8.45 from La Chic Unique.
No. 8 – What to get if she’s a bit girlie.
If your little pumpkin is a very girlie girl, then jewellery is a great option. But beware of going too cutesy, on some ladies it can just end up looking a bit ‘mad cat lady’.
What about something like this Graduated Pink Sapphire Bracelet?
A classic tennis bracelet is always a winner and this one’s set with gorgeous graduated pink sapphires. A show-off piece without the mahoosive price tag. £99 from Compton & Woodhouse.
No. 7 – Maybe she’s got a bit of a dark side?
If you think your lady would prefer something a little bit more Bram Stoker than Barbie, there are lots of options but it can be hard to find something that’s still romantic.
I’m rather taken with this Bohemian Glass Heart Necklace by Martick.
The heart and the rose scream romance but the intense, darkness of the red give this necklace a gothic touch. Martick jewellery is widely available, I found this one at John Lewis, £35.
No. 6 – She loves vintage jewellery.
Vintage jewellery is brilliant, sometimes you can find truly amazing pieces in the most unlikely of places and really hit the jackpot. But unless you know what you’re doing, it can be a minefield, not to mention you can end up traipsing from place to place and still not get the right piece.
Take a look at Zephyr Vintage on Etsy. Now, they’re based in the US, but the shipping charges are extremely reasonable. And they have the most gorgeous collection of vintage jewellery I’ve seen in a long time.
I could show about 50 pieces here, as there are so many stunning items on the site, but I thought these were rather lovely and perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Hollycraft Rhinestone Earrings.
Being vintage, each of the items on the site are one-offs (so go and grab these quickly). But don’t worry if you miss out, you will definitely find something for your vintage-lovin’ lady on their site. £22.90 (approx).
No. 5 – She’s got a bit of a sweet tooth.
A favourite place of mine for beautiful, handmade jewellery is The Beaut Boutique. I love the ideas, the designs and the attention to detail is incredible. So, if your lady’s got a bit of a sweet tooth and can regularly be found baking piles of cupcakes in the kitchen, then this is the perfect gift for her.
Slice of Polka Dot Cake Necklace.
Looking almost good enough to eat, this gorgeous little necklace is fun and super-cute. The matching earrings are also available here. £7 for the necklace and £6 for the earrings from The Beaut Boutique.
No. 4 – She’s not really ‘in to jewellery’.
Now, every one is different and thankfully, there are fabulous designers and jewellers in the UK making modern and innovative jewellery, challenging the traditional views of what jewellery should be and what it means to the wearer. One such company is the splendid Tatty Devine.
At Tatty Devine they sell handmade jewellery made out of perspex. And if you’ve never seen their stuff, it’s really is amazing.
A perfect gift would be a Name Necklace. Not only can you choose the name (obvs!) but you can also pick the colour, the style of lettering, the charm and the chain. So, you can really build something totally bespoke for your gal.
By being able to choose every aspect of the design of this necklace, you can create something really special. The website is easy to use and you can preview your creation, but there are also Tatty Devine shops on Brick Lane and Monmouth Street in London. Details on the website. £27.50 or ‘make it big’ for an extra £10.
No. 3 – She’s a bit of a music fan.
See, now this is what I love about the UK jewellery industry, there really is something for everyone. Whilst on my endless bumblings around, I happened upon this fantastic little number from Zara Taylor London.
Hey Mr DJ Antique Silver Necklace.
How wonderful is this!?! If your good lady-friend can be seen coping with the commute with a pair of massive cans clamped on hers ears, then this is the one for you. £15.99 by Zara Taylor London.
No. 2 (snigger) – She’s a child of the 80s.
Right, I’ll be honest with you now, these are only really here for me. I LOVE Star Wars and anything Star Wars related and just wanted an excuse to put these in. So please, humour me, but how great are these!!!
Rings! With Star Wars characters on them!! *WSS explodes*
In all seriousness, go and have a look at Atomic Dog, they have some brilliant, kitsch stuff on there. Rings £7.53 (approx).
No. 1 (more sniggering) – The biggie!
Of course, there can only be one thing missing from this Top 10. The ultimate Valentine’s Day gift. It is, of course, a diamond.
If you love each other madly and want to spend the rest of your lives together, there is nothing more romantic than proposing on Valentine’s Day.
If you need help on getting through the minefield of choosing a diamond, see my previous post – Thinking of buying a diamond ring? WSS explains everything you need to know.

Just a quick note to say thanks very much for the research and guidance!
I’ve actually bought something from number 6 (Zephyr Vintage), which I ordered on the 26th and arrived this morning, the it’s great and I would never have bought something so original for Valentine’s day without your site.
Here’s to hoping that the wife likes it!
That’s fantastic news, glad to be of service. Hope your good lady wife liked her gift?
