OK, don’t judge me, but I found a pound coin on the floor today. Mini-yay for me! So, what would most people do when they find a pound? Go and buy a Lottery ticket? Stick in their change jar? Buy a bar of chocolate (“I’ve got a Golden Ticket!”)?
Not me. I go and buy jewellery.
“Jewellery for a single pound” I hear you cry, with a slight roll of your eyes, “you must be ker-raaayzee!”.
Not so. I’ll set the scene.
There I was, strolling down the street on the way back from my first PowerPlate class (huge ouch, by the way), glancing at the shop windows on my local high street. It was then I spotted a small tray in the window of a leather shop with a hand-written tag stating “All Rings Now £1″. Whoa, hold the phone!
Now, obviously, I’m not talking 18ct diamond rings and the like. It was a small tray of over-sized moulded resin rings. But a few caught my eye, namely some coloured rose-shaped rings. Now, I know the rose ring has been done to death and these obviously weren’t in the league of the likes of Chanel and Dior, but my interest was still piqued (they were a POUND!).
There were a few colours, red (obviously), green, lilac and black. And it was the black that I liked best. It appealed to my slightly theatrical, romantically gothic side. And there was only one left!
So, a few hundred yards later, when I happened to look down and see that (slightly grubby) £1 coin on the floor, it seemed like fate was shining down on me. And who am I to argue with fate?
Yup, it's a big 'un
Hey, it’s basically free jewellery, right?
Not what you'd call discreet
Now, I’m not trying to claim it’s the most stylish thing ever made, but I love it. It’s huge amounts of fun. And jewellery should be enjoyed sometimes, just for being a little bit silly (anyone remember Mood Rings – good times).
So, I am sitting here typing, with my huge black rose ring on and a little smile on my face. And that’s got to be worth at least a pound eh?
If you’re interested and near Richmond in the not too distant future, trot along to LeatherTrove (see what they did there?), 404 Richmond Road, TW1 2EB. Oh, and they do gorgeous bags too. Just sayin’.
