Discovering New Jewellery Designers in the wilds of East London.

Animal, Color, Handmade, Necklace, Pink

Thanks to a flurry of urgent, last-minute deadlines, I wasn’t able to make it along to as much of London Jewellery Week as I had planned. This made me very sad as I was really looking forward to catching up with a lot of jewellery friends and oogling new and exciting sparkles.

So, once all my articles had been filed on time (big pat on WSS’ head), I decided to treat myself to the afternoon off and arranged to meet a friend for lunch and then a wander round the Jewel East event at Old Spitalfiends in East London.

Jewel East showcases up and coming jewellery talent, so I was really looking forward to seeing some fantastic new designers and innovative jewellery. Alas, if I’m honest, I was a tad disappointed, there wasn’t that much that caught my eye. But happily, not too far into my forage, I came across Go Jewellery and met the delightful Charmaine who is the owner and designer.

Charmaine at Go Jewellery

Her stand was full of fun, quirky, bright jewellery and Charmaine was full of enthusiasm, explaining the story behind each piece. Whimsical characters take on a life of their own and interact with each other. She’s taken their stories through her website and Facebook pages, creating a wonderfully wacky world which features not only her jewellery and characters, but her inspiration sources, animations and illustrations. Creativity oozes from every page and it’s very infectious.

Much of the current collection of the website finds its roots in Origami, using the angular shapes to create a collection of super-cute animals.

For those of you who regularly read this blog and know of my penchant for elephants, you’ll have guessed that I’ve totally fallen in love with Cyrus already. How? Cute!?!

The new collection, which Charmaine was showcasing at Jewel East, is launching very soon and I can’t wait. She’s put new characters into lots of fun situations and the skill and attention to detail in every piece is lovely to see.

Hope Monday is treating you well?

Big kisses.

    Hello there,

It was fun to read your blog. Your article on jewellery design deserves much praise and appreciation. Your designs inspired from origami designs, animals and cartoons was marvelous. Try getting more ideas from zodiac signs symbols, chinese astrological animals and Greek mythical creatures to be incorporated into your jewellery designs. Just a suggestion.
